What is Nainital famous for?

Nainital is a popular hill station in the Uttarakhand state of India. The city has 3 freshwater lakes that contribute to making it cool and calm throughout the year. The temperature of the region is between 10 to 25 degrees most of the time, which makes it an ideal tourist destination.

The Legacy of Nainital

It is also known as Tri-Rishi Sarovar (Lake of the three sages), as the Nainital lake is said to have emerged from a burrow that three holy sages dug.

Legends also say that it is one of the Shakti Peeths of India. Shakti Peeths are religious sites where parts of the charred body of Sati (Parvati) fell on the earth. The site where Goddess Sati’s eyes (nain in Hindi) fell, became a lake from the tears and hence the town is called as Nainital (tal means lake in Hindi).
