No matter what the impulse is, the act born of it is beyond imagination, marvelous to our kind of people, the cold whites.\u201d<\/td>\n<td width=\"20\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>The city&#8217;s original name \u2013 Prayag or \u201cPlace of Offerings\u201d comes from its position at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Triveni_Sangam\" rel=\"nofollow\">Sangam<\/a>\u00a0(confluence) of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ganga\" rel=\"nofollow\">Ganga<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Yamuna\" rel=\"nofollow\">Yamuna<\/a>\u00a0and mythical\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sarasvati_River\" rel=\"nofollow\">Sarasvati<\/a> rivers. It is the second-oldest city in India, and plays a central role in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hindu_scriptures\" rel=\"nofollow\">Hindu scriptures<\/a>. Allahabad was originally called Kaushambi by the Kuru rulers of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hastinapur\" rel=\"nofollow\">Hastinapur<\/a> who developed it as their capital. Since then, Allahabad has been a political, cultural and administrative centre of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Doab\" rel=\"nofollow\">Doab<\/a>\u00a0region.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mughal_empire\" rel=\"nofollow\">Mughal<\/a>\u00a0emperor\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Akbar\" rel=\"nofollow\">Akbar<\/a>\u00a0renamed it Ilahabad, which the British changed to Allahabad.\u00a0Allahabad became the capital of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/North-Western_Provinces\" rel=\"nofollow\">North-Western Provinces<\/a>\u00a0in 1858, and was the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_capitals_of_India\" rel=\"nofollow\">capital of India<\/a>\u00a0for a day. The city was the capital of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_Provinces_of_Agra_and_Oudh\" rel=\"nofollow\">United Provinces<\/a>\u00a0from 1902\u00a0to 1920\u00a0and remained at the forefront of national importance during the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Indian_independence_movement\" rel=\"nofollow\">struggle for Indian independence<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.gozocabs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/kum1.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1642\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.gozocabs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/kum1.jpg?resize=700%2C467\" alt=\"kum1\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.gozocabs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/kum1.jpg?w=700&amp;ssl=1 700w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.gozocabs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/kum1.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Triveni Sangam is believed to be the place where drops of nectar fell from the pitcher, from the hands of the Gods. It is believed that a bath in the sangam will wash away all one&#8217;s sins and will clear the way to heaven. Devout Hindus from all over India come to this sacred pilgrimage point to offer prayers and take a dip in the holy waters. The sacred\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gozocabs.com\/gurgaon-haridwar\">Kumbh Mela\u00a0<\/a>is held every 12 years on the banks of Ganga, Yamuna and Sarsvati at Sangam.<\/p>\n<p>Although it is well connected through main city via all means of transport bus services are quite prominent.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.gozocabs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/kum2.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1643\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.gozocabs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/kum2.jpg?resize=962%2C611\" alt=\"kum2\" width=\"962\" height=\"611\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.gozocabs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/kum2.jpg?w=962&amp;ssl=1 962w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.gozocabs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/kum2.jpg?resize=300%2C191&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.gozocabs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/kum2.jpg?resize=768%2C488&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 962px) 100vw, 962px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Anand Bhavan\u00a0is a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Historic_house_museum\" rel=\"nofollow\">historic house museum<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0the city focusing on the Nehru Family. It was constructed by Indian political leader\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Motilal_Nehru\" rel=\"nofollow\">Motilal Nehru<\/a>\u00a0in the 1930s to serve as the residence of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nehru-Gandhi_Family\" rel=\"nofollow\">Nehru family<\/a>\u00a0when the original mansion\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Swaraj_Bhavan\" rel=\"nofollow\">Swaraj Bhavan<\/a>\u00a0was transformed into the local headquarters of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Indian_National_Congress\" rel=\"nofollow\">Indian National Congress<\/a>.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jawahar_Planetarium\" rel=\"nofollow\">Jawahar Planetarium<\/a>, the planetarium is situated here, which has been striving to inculcate scientific temper among masses through its sky shows on astronomy and science. It\u00a0was donated to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Indian_government\" rel=\"nofollow\">Indian government<\/a>\u00a0in 1970 by the then Prime Minister\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Indira_Gandhi\" rel=\"nofollow\">Indira Gandhi<\/a>, the granddaughter of Motilal Nehru and daughter of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jawaharlal_Nehru\" rel=\"nofollow\">Jawaharlal Nehru<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Well connected via city roads, rails and airways. Anand Bhavan is located about 3.5 km away from Allahabad Railway Station. It is roughly two miles from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Allahabad_Fort\" rel=\"nofollow\">Allahabad Fort<\/a>. Situated over forty acres and shaped as a quadrangle it includes the tombs of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Manbhawati_Bai\" rel=\"nofollow\">Shah Begum<\/a>, Jahangir&#8217;s Rajput wife and the daughter of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bhagwant_Das\" rel=\"nofollow\">Maharaja Bhagwant Das<\/a>\u00a0and Khusrau Mirza&#8217;s mother;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Khusrau_Mirza\" rel=\"nofollow\">Khusrau Mirza<\/a>, Jahangir&#8217;s eldest son and briefly heir apparent to the Mughal throne; and Nithar Begum, Khusrau Mirza&#8217;s sister and Jahangir&#8217;s daughter. It is a paradise for those who are made for taste. If one is in Allahabad, then the Mughalai cuisine of North India should not be forgot to enjoy. Other than this, Allahabad offers a number of options from spicy Chaats to Continental cuisines, from street food to a number of cafes. The air travel scene is changing slowly after Kumbh Mela of 2013. Still it is easier to fly into\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gozocabs.com\/varanasi-allahabad\">Varanasi\u00a0 <\/a>or\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gozocabs.com\/lucknow-mathura\">Lucknow\u00a0 <\/a>as both of these airports are much better serviced.<\/p>\n<p>By train: Allahabad is situated on the trunk train route from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gozocabs.com\/delhi-allahabad\">Delhi\u00a0<\/a>to\u00a0Kolkata\u00a0and from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gozocabs.com\/mumbai-pune\">Mumbai\u00a0<\/a>to\u00a0Kolkata, so it is well-connected by trains. Innumerable trains stop at Allahabad. The city has four railway stations, Daragang, Prayag, Rambagh and Allahabad Junction. In addition, another temporary railway station known as Prayag Ghat is used during important religious festivals for the better management and control of extra pilgrim traffic on those occasions.<\/p>\n<p>By bus: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gozocabs.com\/allahabad-kanpur_nagar\">Allahabad <\/a>is on NH2 and NH27 and is, therefore, well connected by road. Magh Mela typically happens in the month of February and March and this is the time when millions of people flock to the town to take dip in holy Sangam.
