Navratri

It is one of the two most important festivals in Vadodara. Navratri is a 9 days long festival organized in the praise of Goddess Durga. Huge idols of Goddess Durga are set in large compounds. From evening to midnight, every day, people (including men, women, and children) play Garba before the Goddess. Garba is a traditional dance form of Gujarat, where people dance in circles following the same steps. The team of random guests performing in similar tune is impeccable. It is also known as Makar Sankranti in many parts of India. It is a day when the sun enters the Northern Hemisphere. The Uttarayan festival symbolises the beginning of a six months period between Makar Sankranti and the Karka Sankranti. On this day people share joy by flying kites and a number of delicacies are prepared at home.

The Gujarat government also organises a week long International Kite Festival in different cities of Gujarat. The festival is an important milestone of Gujarat Tourism as people from all over the world participate in the Kite Festival.
